As a lifelong athlete, BSc in Health Promotion graduate, and fitness professional, I am passionate about making health and wellness opportunities attainable and accessible to all.
My biggest motivation is hearing that I’ve helped someone improve their quality of life. In my classes you can expect to feel safe and supported in every movement while still getting a great full body workout each time we meet. Although you will still get a good sweat, you can also expect to work on functional movement and mobility so that you can keep coming back…better.

I grew up like many, playing competitive hockey, soccer and golf. Fitness became a passion of mine from the age of 15 when I started off-season hockey training. When I stopped playing competitively, I didn’t lose my desire to continue training like an athlete. I began coaching weighted and body weight circuit classes in 2013 as a way to challenge myself and others. Over the years my training styles have evolved and I’ve tried just about every style you can think of. Mostly I enjoy up-tempo HIIT-style and functional fitness training that can be used in everyday life.

I have always been a movement enthusiast. My flaw is that I can’t seem to choose just one or two activities. I love to try all different types of physical activity and challenge myself constantly. I've had a 10 year competitive Ringette career & played many other sports recreationally. I love to run, although my body does not. I have ski’d for as long as I can remember and in 2015 I became a cyclist by cycling across Canada. I built my career in a movement based profession as a Chiropractor and I love helping others move better and move often. Most recently, I decided to build on my 10 year yoga practice, by obtaining my 200 hour yoga teacher training certification. This is my next chapter in movement.

Julia has been teaching barre for over two years in gyms, outside in the park and at local events including BARRE for the BEAT, an annual fundraiser for Heart & Stroke co-created by her and fellow Move East instructor Leanne Wiese. Barre is a low impact strengthening workout grounded and inspired by ballet, Pilates and yoga. Julia fell in love with to this form of exercise as it allowed her to utilize her dance background and build strength, without the intensity of high-impact activities (she has had a spinal fusion since the age of 15!). If Julia is not teaching barre, you can find her training for her next half or full marathon with the Halifax Road Hammer running group
